Mature Skin – 10 Proven Ways to Get Your Skin Glowing Again!

Having radiant and glowing skin is a goal for many individuals. As we age, our mature skin tends to lose vitality making our skin look dull and sallow. Achieving that coveted luminosity isn’t just about genetics; it’s about adopting a healthy skincare routine and making lifestyle choices that support your skin’s natural beauty.

In this blog post, I’ll share ten proven ways to get your skin glowing, regardless of your skin type or age.

1. Double Cleanse and Exfoliate Regularly

Start with a clean canvas. Cleansing your face twice a day removes dirt, oil, and makeup that can clog pores and dull your complexion. If you haven’t started a double cleansing routine every evening, now is the time to add this important step in.

Pomifera Erase Pre Cleanse

Double cleansing removes impurities and stubborn makeup with ease so that during your second cleanse you are truly cleansing the skin. The product I use, Erase: Purifying Pre Cleanse has become a viral obsession over on Tik Tok. It’s a powerful oil-free formula that you spritz on the face, allow ten seconds to begin working then gently massage in circular motions. Rinse, then begin with your cleanser.

Pomifera Balance Facial Cleanser

My favorite cleanser is the Balance: Facial Cleanser. This cleanser is formulated with Sea Kelp to naturally condition the skin and dispense high concentrations of vitamins and minerals while protecting natural moisture. There are two different formulations of this cleanser, one for dry/sensitive/mature skin and one for normal/oily/acne prone skin.

As the skin ages, the natural process of cell turnover slows down.

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and a more radiant complexion. Exfoliation also enhances your product to penetrate more effectively, maximizing their benefits. Exfoliation is what I believe has greatly added to the glow to my 54 years old skin. I exfoliate once to twice a week consistently.

Pomifera Clarify Exfoliant

Both physical and chemical exfoliants can benefit mature skin, but it depends on individual preferences and skin sensitivities. Chemical exfoliants, like AHA and BHA can be gentler and effective at skin renewal. I prefer the Clarify: chemical exfoliant. It uses three hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids) to address a wide range of skin concerns. This product reduces signs of again, clears and minimizes pore size and reduces blemishes.

2. Hydrate Inside and Out

Proper hydration is crucial for glowing skin. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. Other beverages that help meet your needs for fluids include coconut water, herbal teas and fresh pressed juices and bone broth.

Not a fan of plain water? Add your favorite hydrating foods to it. Oranges, cucumbers and watermelon make your water taste like a treat.

External hydration is just as important. Mature skin tends to dry out as we age. Your skin may begin to feel tight and itchy the older your get. Looks for moisturizers that are rich peptides that boost collagen production and ceramides to prevent moisture loss.

Pomifera Nourish

I have two moisturizers I use daily. A lightweight formula during the day and a richer moisturizer for night. My morning moisturizer is Nourish: Facial MoisturizerThis lightweight moisturizer comes in two different formulas, normal to dry and normal to oily. Both are anti-aging and help plump the skin, and work well under makeup. Always allow 10 minutes for your moisturizer to soak in before applying makeup. I am always trying to save time, so I fill in my brows and do my eyes while my moisturizer dries down.

Pomifera Anti Aging Serum

My evening moisturizer is a facial oil. Oils are always the last step in your skincare routine. I like the Pomifera Pure: Anti-aging Serum and Complete Moisturizer. This clean product is suitable for all skin types and is clinically tested to reduce the appearance of:

  • Age spots

  • Skin damage

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Deep wrinkles

  • Emerging wrinkles

  • Fine lines

3. Sun Protection is a Must

This is what I would say really aged my skin the most. I only wore SPF while outside or when going to the beach. For 30 years, I drove to work without SPF with the sun damaging my skin. Of course, looking back on it the SPF of yesteryears left your skin chalky and did not work well under makeup.

UV rays can wreak havoc on your skin, causing premature aging and dark spots. Always wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days. Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the best ways to maintain its youthful glow.

I have three favorite SPF’s that I can say feel just like traditional moisturizers and now have me wearing my sunscreen daily. Two are organic chemical sunscreens and one is a physical sunscreen.

The first one is the Beauty by Joseon SPF 50 Relief Sunscreen. This is EWG green level certified ingredients that includes rice extract.

Naturium Dew Glow SPF 50

Next up is the Naturium Dew Glow SPF 50, that applies invisibly, leaving you with a dewy finish. Niacinamide and ethyl ascorbic acid are included to help visibly improve the look of the complexion.

Youth Activating BB Cream

Lastly, the Youth Activating BB cream is a long wear 5-in-1 beauty balm that has SPF 30 chemical-free broad spectrum suncreen. It has zinc in it to naturally protect from the sun while providing vitamins, polyphenols and green algae to improve firmness. This to me is a great chemical free way to protect against the sun while it evens our the skin tone. It comes in four different shades to select from.

Remember, all SPF should be re-applied every few hours when spending time outside.

4. Eat a Balanced Diet

Your diet plays a significant role in your skin’s health. Incorporate foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish can help maintain your skin’s natural moisture. If you are anything like me, I try to keep a healthy diet but it’s darn near impossible to get all the nutrients we need in the form of our diets.

This is where good quality supplementation comes along with a pro-biotic. I take the Shaklee Vitallizer Gold vitamin packs that supports heart, joint, immune, bone and digestive health. They are easy on the go vitamin strips that give you all the support your diet needs.

5. Get Your Beauty Sleep

Beauty sleep is real! Your skin rejuvenates itself while you sleep, so aim for 7-9 hours of quality rest each night. I know, I know…if you are in the menopause/perimenopause years I get that the struggle is real.

Here’s a couple tips that have helped me:

  • Maintaining a night time ritual, same time to go to sleep and get up each day.

  • No caffeine after noon

  • No screen time after 8pm, blue light can affect your circadian rhythms

  • Limit your alcohol consumption

  • Eat no later than 7pm

  • Quality magnesium supplement, magnesium glycerinate is considered the best for bettering sleep.

  • Sleepy time tea, we are fans of the Yogi Soothing Caramel tea in my house.

  • Sleeping on a clean silk pillow case

  • Drop the temperature. 60-68 degrees F is the ideal temperature for slumber.

6. Stress Management

Chronic stress can negatively impact your skin’s health. Practice stress-reduction techniques like prayer and meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises to maintain a healthy complexion and peace of mind.

7. Avoid Smoking and Limit Alcohol

Smoking damages collagen and elastin, leading to premature aging and dull skin. Excessive alcohol consumption can dehydrate your skin and cause inflammation. Cutting down on these habits can significantly improve your skin’s appearance.

And if you are prone to acne, take time to evaluate your diet. Findings indicate that a low-glycemic diet may reduce the amount of acne you have. Also evaluate if you have a sensitivity to cow’s milk, which has also been linked to an increase in acne formation.

Consider doing a daily journal of your foods along with the condition of your skin. I did this when I was struggling with frequent migraines, and it helped me gain knowledge on what was triggering these events.

8. Customize Your Skincare Routine

Tailor your skincare routine to your skin type and concerns. Consult a skincare professional to find the best products and treatments for your specific needs. I have a complimentary skincare quiz you can fill out if you would like help choosing products from the skincare line that has helped heal my mature skin.

9. Exercise Regularly

Exercise improves blood circulation, which can contribute to a healthy complexion. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week.

10. Choose a Makeup that allows your skin to Glow

Time and time again, pro MUA’s choose cream makeup products for mature skin or when the client is lacking a glow to the skin. Here’s a few reasons why I recommend Seint’s IIID foundation.

  • Hydration: Cream makeup has more hydrating ingredients that powders or liquid formulas. These occlusive ingredients prevent makeup from cracking or creasing especially with mature skin.

  • Dewy Finish: Cream makeup gives a natural, dewy finish that can make mature skin look more radiant and youthful.

  • Buildable Coverage: Less is more when it comes to makeup on mature skin. Creams allow you control of the level of amount of product you want on the skin without overloading makeup onto the skin causing additional texture.

  • Cream Products are true multitaskers in the makeup world. Take a cream bronzer for example, you can add warmth to the face, line the lips, and create a natural eyeshadow contour.
